Millbrook is a city in Autauga and Elmore counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. The population was 14,640 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Millbrook is located at (32.497626, -86.368545).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.1 square miles (34 km2), of which, 12.8 square miles (33 km2) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) of it (1.75%) is water.

History

Millbrook includes the former village of Robinson Springs within its boundaries. The Robinson Springs United Methodist Church was formed in 1828.[2]

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 10,386 people, 3,660 households, and 2,931 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,091.3 people per square mile (421.2/km²). There were 3,897 housing units at an average density of 409.5 per square mile (158.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 79.86% White, 17.11% Black or African American, 0.55% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 1.44% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 3,660 households out of which 45.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.9% were non-families. 16.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.21.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 34.5% from 25 to 44, 19.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $43,838, and the median income for a family was $47,004. Males had a median income of $34,893 versus $23,998 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,189. About 7.4% of families and 8.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.3% of those under age 18 and 5.7% of those age 65 or over.
